Tamil song composed by me for my friends..

Story of the song -

No big story behind the song.Just I could not make it to my friend Rajesh's wedding on Dec 5th, 2011 because of a personal commitment, though I have planned well in advance to attend and felt very bad about it.Suddenly I felt like writing something to wish him on his wedding. Thus this song was born on 5.12.2011 @ 4.30 pm :)

As I know singing is not my strength, two people crossed my mind...my brother Dinesh and his friend Sumitra. I asked my brother to sing as I felt the song will be much better in a male voice. With his busy schedule he dragged it for a long period.Meanwhile I have tried with some of my other friends for singing but that has not worked. Then I left it as such.

At last, a month ago my brother sent me the message that he has mailed the song to me, after nearly 10 months :) . I was so excited listening to the song, as it is the 1st time I am listening to someone singing my own song.Felt very happy.

And today is my brother's birthday and this has been published today as a way to thank him.

This song goes to all my friends for their happy married life :)

Felt Tremors of Indonesian Earthquake @Chennai, Mylapore..

Just an hour ago felt the tremors caused by Indonesian earthquake of 8.7 on Richter scale.Initially thought that the shake is due to the chair I was sitting on and as I was checking it, heard some of my neighbors talking of tremors outside.Though everybody was standing outside for quite some time I stayed @ home, as I believe in the 'final destination' :)

And on the Tsunami alert for 5pm today, I have a feeling that it is not going to hit us..

On the other side, we have a power cut scheduled at 4-6pm today, in another 25 mins.Lets see how responsible and concerned our 'officers' are on people.Anyone with common sense will not shut down the scheduled power cut in times of emergency like this, esp when people are hooked to communication networks for further information. Will update what has happened later tonight..

Meanwhile,

Update (9.11 pm) : So glad that no scheduled power cut @mylapore, though heard of power cut at Madipakkam n Mambalam.More importantly, as rightly felt no tsunami..:)

Human Rights activists prevented at Police encounter spot. How good is the idea?

On 24th Feb, the killing of 5 bank robbery suspects in police encounter came as a great surprise to me, not because of the incident but it was rightly predicted by my husband on 21st Feb. Soon after the IOB bank robbery he said that there might be some police encounter in the coming week. Kudos to him for the right sync with the political trends.

Any time after some serious/sensitive offense has happened, it has become common for us to expect an police encounter. To us that is just and the end of the issue. And the human rights people raising their concerns are highly irresponsible and a joke, in our opinion. How good is that idea?

Damn bad, if we get into this case -

On 11.11.2006, a suspect Ramnarayan was killed in an police encounter at Nana-nani park at Versova, Northern Mumbai. It was said that the police had gone to the spot based on certain information about the accused w.r.t an FIR filed in Versova Police Station and when they asked the accused to surrender, he tried to kill the policemen and he has been shot in retaliation.

He will not be our concern, after all he is a criminal and the police shot.So what? Yes but only if we know the real fact of the case -

Ramnarayan Gupta(deceased) and his friend Janardan Bange who were once close and working as real estate agents for Govt acquisition, had some differences over business interest and it is alleged that Janardan had hired few policemen to kill Ramnarayan. On 11.11.2006 Ramnarayan was abducted near a shop at Vashi, along with his friend, by around 4 well built persons in a Qualis car.

Within few minutes of abduction, Ramnarayan's brother who is an practicing advocate, felt something is wrong and sent telegrams to the police commissioner of Thane, complaining that his brother and his friend has been abducted by people who looks like policemen and that their lives are in danger.

On the same day Ramnarayan was killed and his body been thrown at Nana-nani park, Versova. After some time the police had collected the body and made it look like an encounter. An FIR was also created at Versova Police Station.Ramnarayan's friend who is an witness has been detained and kept in police custody for around one month after the incident in three different police stations. His wife who gave a missing complaint in Vashi police station was forced to withdraw the complaint.

Ramnarayan's brother, on 15.11.2006, has got the direction from the High Court to register a case w.r.t his brother's death.During the investigation and inquiry by the Metropolitan Magistrate it is found that Janardhan, Pradip Sharma(an Inspector who is an 'encounter specialist') along with another person entered into conspiracy to kill Ramnarayan due to personal enmity. Many other police officers and criminals were also involved in the case.

It is alleged that it is a clear case of fake encounter where police officers acted as a contract killers.Denying their bail, the Supreme Court came down heavily on the accused and raised concerns as 'this case reveals to what grisly depths our society has descended'.

It is one such case which came to light due to the effort of the deceased brother. Not every case has someone taking such effort. That is where the Human Rights activists plays a major role. We, the common people who gets carried away by the emotional aspect of few cases, are making a big mistake by undermining the efforts of the human rights activists.

Let us be honest and think, apart from a few 'like' in facebook for some social cause what have we really done to address any social issues. If these sites are to be monitored and actions been taken for such views/ support, how many of us are dare to continue our opinion/ comments on the social issues? It is easy to comment and criticise but do we have any better option and are we ready to take a single step out of our home to work for it?

What ever the small changes the human rights activists make in few peoples' life are the outcome of many great effort and sacrifices.Let us stop demotivating them!

When to quit?

Hard to believe that I have not been inspired by anything for past few months to write on anything..and now I m back to my life and to my blog :)

I heard many people always say to motivate others, 'Winners never quit and quitter never wins'.But how true is that?I really doubt it may not be true always. In my personal life I have made few decisions to quit from what I have started but still the decision paid off well.So in some occasions, it is ok to quit.

But be very careful about two things before quitting, first, why to quit and the next most important thing, when to quit?

Few 'when to quit' situations @ work -

  • Don't quit because you hate your company but quit when your company makes you to hate your job.
  • Don't quit when you had to work with an intelligent but bad person, provided you have control over what you are; Don't quit when you had to work with a fool but harmless person, at least you are helping someone in need and getting paid for it too; But do quit at once when you had to work with an idiot who is bad too, as it is not going to help anyone and there will be no learning for you too.

The one and only 'when to quit' situation in life -

  • Don't quit from a relationship because you are not getting enough but do quit at once when you have nothing to give to add value or happiness to your loved one's life.
Remember, at times you need to quit from few battles to win a war.

Saw an accident..We are not as strong as we think..

Last week, when I was on my way to Tambaram Court, I happen to see an accident in a very close range. In fact, I was just behind the man who was injured (I pray that his bad day ends with some injury and he is ok now).

It happened at saidapet, just opposite side to that of Karunanidhi arch. They were in a two-wheeler and both these men seems to be over 65 yrs.Suddenly the man sitting on the back started leaning towards his left, with his head facing the sky.For a moment I thought he was seeing something in the sky and I was so naive to look the sky to see what he was watching with such effort.Suddenly I saw the old man falling down from a moving two-wheeler into a nearby auto, which is also on the move and then to the road.I was so shocked and moved towards left to park my vehicle and help the man. Before that some of the people who were walking on the road-side were quick and got the man in to an auto and fled from the spot.Only at that time, I saw the man had an head injury and the blood was oozing out rapidly. When he was falling in to the auto, his head got hit with the sharp edged part, near the driver seat of the auto.It was a terrible thing that I watched in my life.

After this, initially, my mind was thinking many things like.. I heard someone telling there is a hospital just opposite side of the road.. but we got to go till the end of the road to take the U-turn.How would have they managed?...I had my driving jacket with me..why it didn't struck me to give to someone to hold with his head.. .....

But just after few minutes, something is wrong with me.I felt my hands were shaking a bit..heart-beat increasing..sweating and nauseating. The way he fell down was the only thing in my mind. The road was good and there wasn't any speed-breaker or something to give a twist. There is something in the way he fell down..all I remember is he leaned towards left, seeing the sky and both of his hands were slightly raised and there wasn't any effort to hold anything..it was like a frozen body falling down.So the cause of this accident  must be some kind of stroke or something to do with his health.

VVIP : Very Very Important Points :

  • Do not send the aged people at your home alone, esp driving. No one can predict their health conditions. Ensure that there is some healthy and capable people accompanying them. For eg. in this accident, the person who is driving itself is very aged and he just stood still in the spot.
  • Our body is not that strong as we think. We may be a super-hero in our job and psychologically strong. But we are made with very delicate stuff, physically, which cannot withstand even a small force of nature...even in this accident, we were all going in around 30-40 kmph, as we have just crossed a signal.
  • If you are in a four wheeler, wear seat belts. If you are driving a two-wheeler, WEAR HELMET.Not just you but also the one who is sitting behind, as they are the one who is most vulnerable to the head injuries. If this rule has been implemented and followed, this very accident could have been avoided.Even countries like Sri lanka implements this.
  • Strictly adhere to the safety instructions and follow traffic rules.

Take care...have a happy and safe driving!

How to protect your child from abuses

Some times back, we were shown a short film by name, 'Kannadi', at WLA, which has been directed by Mrs.Raji, a member of the Women Lawyer's Association. The film is about a married woman who cannot have a happy family life because of her sexually abused childhood, which was ignored by her TV stricken mother and workaholic father.I was very casual to the issue until the Chief guest, Dr.P.Manorama, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, gave us some fact and details.

  • It is a misconception that only girl child is sexually abused.Boys too face similar problems.
  • It is a misconception to believe that such thing happens only to some children on the street / someone under Institutional care. She shared us a horrible incident that happened in one of the top schools in chennai.
  • In most cases, the abuser is a well known and trusted person to the child.
  • The present law has to be amended in accordance to the sensitivity of the issue. For eg., in the present process of reporting the abuse itself, first the child has to tell them to her/his parents, then to the Police, then to the counsellor, then during enquiry,....it just goes on.Recounting what a child had gone through to everyone, is more cruel than the incident itself.
Some tips -
  • Teach your child, from the early age itself of, how others are supposed to behave to them when in physical contact. Mothers play a crucial role here.
  • Spend some quality time with your child daily...most importantly, not just to give some advice but to listen to them, of their world.
  • Never push your child to be a winner always. This is the main reason why many children never report of such abuses to their parents. They do not want their parents to see them being failed on some thing. Somehow give them the impression that you will still love them, even if they fail on something.
At the end of the session, a questionnaire has been given to all women lawyers for feedback and what punishment we suggest for such abusers. It was an easy pick to tick on Capital Punishment.

Came across this article on the same topic-

Movies -'Ponnar Shankar'; 'Ko'; 'Vaanam'

In last couple of days, have watched this 3 movies in theaters.Though I have no knowledge on technicalities of film industry, I have my comments here as an ordinary film-goer.

Ponnar Shankar -
It is Prashanth's come back, after a long time. His intro scene is one of the best,I've ever watched in tamil movies. Though the story is a very age old one, u'll find lot of reasons like, very intelligent casting, awesome art direction, colorful costumes, stunts, etc.to keep you glued to the seat, till the end.Kids seems to like it too.If u could forgive some illogical sequences, it is a good family entertainer.

Ko -
Politics, to the core, neatly presented.Very good details on Media, its people & its power. We all have watched many movies on politics, media and naxals but in 'Ko', all the three are well blended, in a different way.Good to watch.

Vaanam -
Awesome movie. It is one of the very rare movies that can touch your soul, talk to you and ask questions.  The story has many dimensions, and surely you can relate to at least any one of  lead characters of the movie. Very happy to see Simbu & Anushka taking up such a great performance-oriented roles, leaving behind their stardom.Great for the art.A must-watch movie, of all the new releases.

Keep It Simple,Stupid!

Recently heard this story from a Tax Professional -

A biscuit manufacturing company in US had an issue from QC Dept., that some of the packages that comes for Checking unit were just empty!!! So the company checked their whole system and upgraded it spending nearly 400,000 USD, so that the biscuit wrappers would never miss to get filled in the conveyor belt.

When some of the company's members came to India for other official purposes, they get to visit a very popular Indian biscuit manufacturing co.,and they were curious about how this company handles such issues. The person in-charge of the unit said that they had a similar problem and showed them a pedestal fan, near the conveyor belt, telling them that this would automatically remove the unfilled empty wrappers from the conveyor.

Moral -
1.The great Indian mind!
2.You don't need that overly-complex solutions for your complicated problems.Hold that moment of problem in calmness, apply presence of mind, and u'll find that very simple solution smiling at you.

Good luck!

செம்மொழி பூங்கா / Classical Language Park, Chennai

Last week been to Semmozhi Poonga/Classical Language Park.I wondered why it took me so much time to visit this place which is just a street away from my home.Better late than never :)

Though the park is open for visitors on all days between 10AM-8PM, ideal time to visit the park would be between 5-7PM as you can also enjoy the very beautiful fountain lighting.
